Smoke Laval's Tigers were penalized for a poor finish and a soft nonconference schedule, according to NCAA selection chair Larry Templeton.

LSU Athletic Director Skip Bertman fired head baseball coach Smoke Laval and his assistant coaches Sunday morning, according to a source close to the situation. LSU officials, who said Laval resigned, are expected to make a formal announcement at a news conference on campus at 4:30 p.m. today
