3 weeks and some change til football season begins. Tiger Football season that is. The only season that really matters. Uncharted territory here people... preseason ranked #2. Returning the best defense in the land and a talented untested and unpredictable offense. I for one am pumped about new offensive coordinator Gary Crowton. So Crowton didn't turn out to be the best head coach in his stint at BYU, but his offenses have always produced the points at BYU, La. Tech, Da Bearsss, and Oregon (home of the most hideous uniforms ever to grace the gridiron).

Okay so there's been a few issues with player discipline with a few Tigers since the Sugar Bowl....nothing compared to the fun and games going on in Gainsville....

Offensive lineman Ronnie Wilson was arrested in April and later suspended for the season after allegedly firing a semiautomatic weapon in the air following a dispute outside a club. In June, running back Brandon James was arrested on marijuana possession. Safety Dorian Munroe spent a night in jail after removing a police-issued boot from his car and placing it in his trunk. And misdemeanors have also been filed against cornerback Jacques Rickerson (marijuana possession), linebacker Dustin Doe (a brawl) and safety John Curtis (probation violation).

Asked Thursday whether this offseason’s incidents have been particularly troubling, Meyer said, “They’re all troubling. Every year you’re dealing with something. [This offseason] was maybe a few more than we’d like.”

Asked whether there might be a correlation between the players’ behavior and having just won a championship, Meyer initially replied “yes,” before hesitating. “I don’t know. There’ve been some teams that weren’t so good that had trouble, too.

“I attribute it to youth. Last year we had 22 seniors, this year we have 10. And if you look at the things that have happened, it’s been younger players. They were all freshmen and sophomores that need to grow up and grow up real fast.”

The aforementioned rap sheet does not even take into account the sad story of former cornerback Avery Atkins. A projected starter last season, Atkins was released from his scholarship following a domestic violence incident in the spring of 2006. Atkins was found dead in his car earlier this month just days after an arrest for possession of crack cocaine.

LSU SPORTS INFORMATION PRESS RELEASE

LSU running back Alley Broussard has decided to leave the Tiger football team, he announced on Tuesday.

Broussard, a senior from Lafayette, said he will remain in school at LSU, where he is scheduled to graduate in December.

"My heart was no longer in it," Broussard said. "I'm scheduled to graduate in December so I want to use the fall semester to dedicate my time towards getting my degree.

"I enjoyed my four years as part of the LSU football team and I wish my teammates success in 2007."

LSU coach Les Miles thanked Broussard for his service to the Tiger football team.

"We understand Alley's decision and we'll support him as he continues to pursue his college degree. We wish him success in his future endeavors and thank him for the time that he spent with our program."

In four years with the Tigers, Broussard played in 35 games, starting eight times. He finished his career with 1,537 yards rushing and 18 touchdowns. Broussard, who missed all of the 2005 season with a knee injury, returned to action last year, rushing for 281 yards and four touchdowns on 74 carries

Some friendly advice for LSU fans: Enough already!
Worry about your own program. Quit trying to undermine about the only good thing that has come your way in 20 years. I understand the jealousy and the antipathy toward Nick Saban for walking out two years ago.
So he's back now in the SEC at rival Alabama and it's only natural to let that get under your skin and create a firestorm over anything and everything. Don't worry about it. Be proud of your coach. He's done a good job of taking the foundation that Saban built and getting the least out of it.
Oh, I know Les Miles' record is 22-4 and all of you folks can revel in the Sugar Bowl trophy over a punching bag better known as Notre Dame (which has lost nine straight bowl games). However, does anyone really think the good times are going to continue? Deep down, most folks in Louisiana know Saban would have likely walked off with a national championship this year. No team had more talent. It was there for the taking. Maybe even last year. Who knows?
One thing is for sure. LSU folks wouldn't have booed Saban (like they did Miles) in 2005 at halftime of the debacle better known as the Tennessee loss. Now, that was class. Really impressive stuff.
Of course, since when has class and LSU football ever been mentioned in the same sentence?
In some respects, LSU folks remind me of Ole Miss when Tommy Tuberville left for Auburn. ....
