LSU Defeats UC Irvine
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU scored five runs in the ninth inning, including Sean Ochinko's go-ahead single, as the Tigers rallied to stave off elimination in their super regional series with a 9-7 win over UC Irvine on Sunday.
The deciding third game at LSU's Alex Box Stadium is Monday night.
Trailing 7-4, LSU (47-17-1) loaded the bases with no outs when Jared Mitchell, who homered in the eighth, walked to force in a run. Pinch-hitter Nicholas Pontiff drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Blake Dean hit an RBI single to tie it and Ochinko followed with a chopper over the third baseman's head to drive in the go-ahead run. DJ LeMahieu's sacrifice fly capped the rally.
Louis Coleman (7-0) allowed one hit in the final three innings for LSU, which had its 23-game winning streak ended the night before. The Tigers struggled against UC Irvine starter Daniel Bibona, who scattered nine hits over 7 1/3 innings, but got to work against the Anteaters' bullpen.
Closer Eric Pettis (4-3) entered in the eighth and allowed five runs on five hits in one inning to take the loss for UC Irvine (42-17).

LSU-Appalachian State to Kickoff Season on ESPN
(06/03/2008) BY www.LSUsports.net
BATON ROUGE -- On Saturday, Aug. 30, LSU will open the 2008 football season on national television as the Tigers host Appalachian State in a game televised by ESPN, the Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday.
Kickoff for the LSU-Appalachian State game is set for 4 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
The Appalachian State game marks the fourth time in five years that LSU opens its season on ESPN. Last year, the Tigers posted a 45-0 road win over Mississippi State in a Thursday night ESPN telecast.
The game between LSU and Appalachian State represents the first time that a defending champion from the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly I-A) will meet the defending champion from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) in the season-opener the following year.
LSU won the 2007 BCS National Championship with a 38-24 win over Ohio State, while Appalachian State capped its 2007 playoff run with a 49-21 victory over Delaware in the Football Championship Subdivision title game.
The season-opener against the Mountaineers will mark the second meeting between the two schools as the Tigers posted a 24-0 win over Appalachian State during the 2005 season.
The only other LSU football game currently scheduled for television is the Nov. 28 contest against Arkansas in Little Rock. That game will be televised by CBS on Friday afternoon at 1:30.

DUMBSH_T!!
The only good about this is that I don't have to stress out about the next suspension....and for one day I don't have to hear about the latest Roger Clemens infidelity or roiding up story.....
