LSU scores five runs in ninth to rally by UC Irvine
Updated: June 8, 2008, 9:27 PM ET
LSU Defeats UC Irvine
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU scored five runs in the ninth inning, including Sean Ochinko's go-ahead single, as the Tigers rallied to stave off elimination in their super regional series with a 9-7 win over UC Irvine on Sunday.
The deciding third game at LSU's Alex Box Stadium is Monday night.
Trailing 7-4, LSU (47-17-1) loaded the bases with no outs when Jared Mitchell, who homered in the eighth, walked to force in a run. Pinch-hitter Nicholas Pontiff drove in a run on a fielder's choice, Blake Dean hit an RBI single to tie it and Ochinko followed with a chopper over the third baseman's head to drive in the go-ahead run. DJ LeMahieu's sacrifice fly capped the rally.
Louis Coleman (7-0) allowed one hit in the final three innings for LSU, which had its 23-game winning streak ended the night before. The Tigers struggled against UC Irvine starter Daniel Bibona, who scattered nine hits over 7 1/3 innings, but got to work against the Anteaters' bullpen.
Closer Eric Pettis (4-3) entered in the eighth and allowed five runs on five hits in one inning to take the loss for UC Irvine (42-17).

LSU-Appalachian State to Kickoff Season on ESPN
(06/03/2008) BY www.LSUsports.net
BATON ROUGE -- On Saturday, Aug. 30, LSU will open the 2008 football season on national television as the Tigers host Appalachian State in a game televised by ESPN, the Southeastern Conference announced on Tuesday.
Kickoff for the LSU-Appalachian State game is set for 4 p.m. in Tiger Stadium.
The Appalachian State game marks the fourth time in five years that LSU opens its season on ESPN. Last year, the Tigers posted a 45-0 road win over Mississippi State in a Thursday night ESPN telecast.
The game between LSU and Appalachian State represents the first time that a defending champion from the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly I-A) will meet the defending champion from the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) in the season-opener the following year.
LSU won the 2007 BCS National Championship with a 38-24 win over Ohio State, while Appalachian State capped its 2007 playoff run with a 49-21 victory over Delaware in the Football Championship Subdivision title game.
The season-opener against the Mountaineers will mark the second meeting between the two schools as the Tigers posted a 24-0 win over Appalachian State during the 2005 season.
The only other LSU football game currently scheduled for television is the Nov. 28 contest against Arkansas in Little Rock. That game will be televised by CBS on Friday afternoon at 1:30.

Bama Jokes....

Q: Four Bammer players in a car, who's driving?
Q: Why can't most of the Bammer players get into a huddle on the field? A: It is a parole violation to associate with known felons.
The Bammer team has adopted a new Honor System. Yes, your Honor, No, your Honor. The Tide had a 7-6 season last year. 7 Arrests, 6 convictions.
Q: How will the Tide spend the first week of Spring Training?
Samson Report..Spring Practice update...
Miles got pissed about some of the players grades and cancelled Saturday’s intra-squad scrimmage and made the entire team run sprints instead. Perrilloux is still absent but is expected to return soon. Jarrett Lee has been impressive in his absence according to almost everyone who has seen him. Chad Jones has not been working with the baseball team so that he can be a starter next season for the football team. The same goes for Jared Mitchell who had a nice reception and touchdown for 60 yards in yesterday’s mini scrimmage. The corners we lost will be replaced seamlessly and they will be about 3 deep in the defensive backfield. Part of the depth will be true freshman Patrick Johnson has not even arrived yet but he’s expected to get a lot of playing time in the fall. He will be used much like Chad Jones was used last season. They are very similar in size and ability. Remember the name Ron Brooks. He redshirted last year but he’s going to compete for one of the corner spots. Linebacker seems to be our only weakness during the spring but that’s because 2 of the projected starters are out with minor injuries. They are missing valuable practice time so that is a problem. The offense will be strong. There are no weaknesses besides the behavior of the starting QB. It’s going to be a good season.
Recruiting wise, I thing it’s safe to say that if we continue to recruit the way we have been, we’ll have the #1 recruiting class in the nation next February. Or as Alabama might say, we’ll be the “Recruiting National Champions”.

Les Miles on the RP Situation.....

Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Random Stuff...
- Ryan P. indefinitely suspended. Dude...mature okay. Hard to make it into the NFL if you can't follow the rules college. Mature okay.
- No RP so could it be Hatch or Lee as QB in the fall?
- Spring Practice starts Feb 29th - Man that's early.
- Men's B-Ball packed the house twice since BradyBall ended...and lost both of them. Do us a favor Skip... Let Butch Pierre go... and bring in an entirely new coaching staff.
- LSUal as A.D.??? Hmmm.... I'll have to think about that one.
- Women's B-Ball. Down 21-2 to Tenn at Tenn. Goes on a 21-2 Run and wins. This team's gotta chance to make some noise yet again.
- Dang TAF "Tradition Fund" Due again... ouch.
- Baseball starts in a few weeks.... I miss the 90's only for the reason of Gorilla Ball. The rest was just plain bad.
- Still collecting National Championship Merchandise. Chinese factories are humming makin this stuff.
- I still hate and/or despise USC, Alabama, Notre Dame, UGA, Va. Tech, Tulane, Ole Miss.... and the rest.....
- Curely Hallman is unemployed again... Muscle Schoals H.S. now hiring again...
- Dinardo's status is unknown...see hanging around Muscle Schoals, AL
- Bama fans think they just won the national championship because a rating service in Alabama ranked their Football recruiting class as #1.
- Saban's going to have a fun time distributing 25 scholarships to the 33 players he signed. This will be interesting.
- Eli Manning won a big game... he didn't trip. What a weird year so far....

TOAST!
from the advocate.....
........Brady was never popular with fans, though, and attendance did not even pick up much after the Final Four. It has dwindled to the 4,000 range the last two seasons with the 6-17 SEC mark.
"Men's basketball has been stagnant at about 7,000 season-ticket holders," Bertman said. "And even though we went to the Final Four, we only had a few additional season-ticket holders. But the ultimate reason John Brady was fired is not attendance. They just didn't win enough basketball games since the Final Four.".......

It's Gameday by Jill.....(Championship Edition!)

The bags are packed, the parties are planned
We’re all making the trip
From New Orleans to Montana to Afghanistan and Iraq
Every one of us is going to the Ship
After five glorious weeks of rest and rehabilitation
It will be beautiful to see a healthy number 72
A fully and completely ready Early Doucet
And the 2-headed quarterback of Flynn and Perrilloux
Kirston Pittman wants another BCS ring
Craig Steltz looks to add another to his family
Playing for a National Championship is a rare and special thing
Keith Zinger, also playing for his 2nd, would agree
Matt Flynn’s patience now has its reward
He waited, and he has earned this chance
He’s not ever going to be a first round draft pick
But his leadership has brought him to college football’s biggest dance
Let’s talk about the Ohio State Buckeyes
Their bowl record vs. The SEC is 0-8
Notre Dame was sure they’d break their losing streak last year
Does anyone need a reminder of their fate?
ESPN is in an ’03 time warp
They want so badly to make other teams matter
The National Championship game is right here and right now
Anything else is just chatter
This damn fine football team has persevered
With their heart and fight they have earned this attention
Every single player has made it happen
This poem is too short, but every name deserves a mention
Coach Miles is the subject of a great debate
Is he smart or is he crazy? Is it this or is it that?
There’s only one thing those people need to know
Now is the time to Fear the Hat
GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fun with numbers.....

Flynn and Perrilloux Playing Video Games to prepare?
LSU quarterbacks use video game to prepare for BCS national championship game
By RALPH D. RUSSO, AP College Football WriterJanuary 5, 2008
NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- When practice is over and film study is done, LSU quarterbacks, as most college kids do, play video games.
The difference is Matt Flynn and Ryan Perrilloux are usually still working on the game plan for the BCS national championship game against Ohio State when they fire up the Xbox these days.
LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton has used a custom-made video game to help his quarterbacks learn to read defenses.
XOS Technologies, a company that specializes in gearing technology to the needs of coaches, worked with EA Sports to produce the PlayAction Simulator that LSU has used this season.
"What they've done is they put our plays into the video game and then they put in our opponents' defenses," said Crowton, the Tigers' first-year offensive coordinator.
The game looks and plays just like the popular Madden NFL and NCAA football games, though all the goofy stuff such as player celebrations, cheering crowds, mascots and bands have been removed.
LSU and Tennessee were the first schools to use it this season and it went well enough that XOS expects to make it available to all its clients this year. The company provides technology to most Division I schools.
"The video game is an excellent resource we have," Perrilloux said. "Whenever we hit a play, that play would automatically match up with the defense that we would see or blitz we would see.
"If you make the wrong decision it's an automatic interception or it's an automatic incompletion." ......................................

48 hours ....and some change....

- Rose Bowl - Pac-10 vs. Big 10 (Eleven) Would have been USC vs OSU
- Sugar Bowl - SEC vs. Big Least/ACC. Would have been LSU vs W... Va./Va. Tech
- Cotton - Big 12 vs. Notre Dame...haaahaaaa... Chokelohoma would have maybe won that one.
- Fiesta - ACC vs ?
So you'd have the media enamored every flipping year over the Rose Bowl as it used to be (well Brent Musberger and ESPN/ABC/ Disnet still are). There'd be no chance for the SEC to win a NC unless they were undefeated... think about it....the last time was in the early 90's when the Bama Cheaters beat the Miami Convicts in the Sugar Bowl. There's been no undefeated SEC teams since.....(well except some Cheating Allbarn teams that were either not allowed to go due to probation or finished behind two other undefeated teams - 2004 ..3 Auburn,2 Texas, 1 USC..... no BCS that year and USC beats OSU and wins the NC....instead of getting beaten by #2 Texas due to the BCS matchup).....
So you'd be hearing 5 Pete Carroll all over ESPN right now ...and you'd be purchasing all your Sugarl Bowl paraphanalia after LSU beat Va. Tech for the second time this season in the sugar bowl...
I prefer this system.... at least until they figure out a playoff that includes every conference having a championship game...and destroying the ROSE Bowl once and for all......

Anti-vanilla Miles not afraid to buck conventional wisdom
By Gene WojciechowskiESPN.com(Archive)
Updated: January 3, 2008, 1:23 PM ET
NEW ORLEANS -- Les is more. Sometimes so much more that you shake your head in disbelief.
Did Les Miles, with only nine seconds remaining and LSU's national title hopes hanging by the width of a Mike VI's tiger whisker, really go for a touchdown on third-and-7 from the Auburn 22 when all he needed was a semi-chip shot field goal to win?
Did he really end his bizarre, Take that, ESPN, I'm-Not-Going-To-Michigan news conference with, "I'm busy. Thank you very much. Have a great day"?
es Miles wears his emotions on his sleeve.
Did he really refer to his Tigers as, "my damn strong football team"?
The pop quiz answers are: yes, yes, and damn yes.
Miles doesn't wear his emotions just on his sleeve. He wears them everywhere: on the sideline while pumping his fist, in the postgame locker room, at news conferences. His face has three dial settings: elation, determination, or I'm Going To Cry. Elation, though, is getting the most work, thanks to the domino effect of upsets and losses all the way from Morgantown, W.Va., to San Antonio.
Somehow -- and not even Miles is sure how the reprieve happened -- LSU is in the Allstate BCS National Championship Game, and better yet, playing the game just 80 miles from its Baton Rouge campus. The Tigers have two losses (a BCS Championship first), they're tracking, statistically speaking, the wrong way during their past eight games, and, depending on the published account you read, almost lost their coach to his beloved alma mater, Michigan............
