JJQ and the Chart-O-Book

Joseph John Quartana passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2007 at the age of 84. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School (class of 1940) and of L.S.U. School of Engineering. Mr. Quartana was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy and served in the Seabees during World War II on the island of Saipan. He was an engineer for Dupont Co. after the war before starting his own firm, Quartana and Associates. Through his firm, Mr. Quartana provided consulting engineering services worldwide for over 50 years. Mr. Quartana was the beloved husband of Roma Burris Quartana for 58 years, the loving father of Donna Quartana Moeller and Lawrence Joseph Quartana, the grandfather of Christine Moeller Bornhorst and John Wood Quartana, and great grandfather of Addison Claire Bornhorst.
I lost an old friend this week..lsual shared an office with JJQ back in the day...well actually all I was given was a corner of a desk and file cabinet drawer but that's not important...
....JJQ was great engineer, all around good guy, super Tiger Fan, he even taught a few engineering courses at Tulame when they actually had an engieering department... and he was the inventor of the Chart-O-Book. The Chart-O-Book was his creation to chart football games. The images above are the Chart-O-Book pages he did for the 2001 SEC Championship Game when the great Matt Mauck subbed for the injured Rohan Davey and stunned Phat Phil and the Tennuhcee volunteers. Long after we worked together he still on occasion made a copy of a great LSU victory chart and mailed it to me. The 2003 National Championship Chart hangs in honor at the LSUal household...
Goodbye Old Friend. Godspeed. ..and Geaux Tigers.
